EastEnders star Colin Salmon has responded to Alan Sugar in the wake of his comments on new character Kojo, branding the business magnate’s comment ‘out of order’.
The Apprentice star Alan is an avid watcher of the BBC One soap and his opinions and commentary on storylines have become talking points on social media over the years.
But his latest take has left viewers upset, with the TV personality branding George Knight’s brother Kojo, who is autistic, a ‘step too far’.
‘I understand that the remit of the BBC is to cater for all walks of life,’ he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. ‘I personally think the character Kojo is a step too far.
‘Firstly the actor does have autism in real life and secondly, what is wrong with @bbceastenders highlighting the challenges that people with autism has and how it can impact their love ones,’ wrote X user Steven.
Mitchell, meanwhile, added that Lord Sugar’s tweet was actually a ‘step too far’.
‘Regardless of how hard or sad it is for ‘you’ to watch. Many of us walk a different path but we are loved, valued members of real families. Authentic representation in popular culture helps bring about & consolidate understanding and empathy. #OutOfOrder #HeAintHeavyHesMyBrother.’
Colin’s response was praised. ‘Well done!’ said Kate Robbins, a sentiment echoed by many fans.
