EastEnders has confirmed that Chrissie Watts will make an explosive return to the show next week and promises huge drama ahead for Albert Square.
In July it was announced that Tracy-Ann Oberman will be reprising her role as iconic villain Chrissie for a short stint after almost 20 years away from the show.
The character famously killed her ex-husband Den Watts before covering up the crime for a while together with Zoe Slater and Sam Mitchell.
But after Sam was originally found guilty, Chrissie was eventually charged with murder and sent to prison, with her last appearance airing in 2005.
It has now been confirmed that Chrissie’s big comeback will air next week – though the details surrounding her return are being kept tightly under wraps.
On Monday, September 9, Chrissie will be seen on screen for the first time in nearly two decades.
EastEnders has promised that drama will ensue, but it remains to be seen what her current circumstances are and what she is up to now.
During the week, Chrissie’s presence will send shock waves through Albert Square, though it isn’t specified just who will be affected by her return.
Sharon isn’t having a good week, having been found in contempt of court while giving evidence at Dean’s murder trial.
But things might get a lot worse for her if she sets eyes on her former stepmother Chrissie again, and it’s a reunion that is sure to bring fireworks.
Also still in Walford is Kat, who also didn’t see eye to eye with Chrissie during her time on the Square, especially as she embroiled her sister Zoe in murder – so she might not be best pleased to see Chrissie again either.
The drama will continue across the episodes next week, and the soap has teased that there will be “difficult” times that come to a climax in the episode that will air on Thursday, September 12.

This week, Oberman revealed that her favourite moment from Chrissie’s previous stint in EastEnders was when her character was punched in the face by the late Barbara Windsor’s Peggy Mitchell.
EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
