Casualty review with spoilers: Fenisha and Lev die in series finale train crash

Series 35 of Casualty (series 36 starts next week) ended

in heartbreak as the ED said goodbye to two of its paramedics,

who were caught up in a tragic incident.

The car that crashed through the barrier on to the railway line

at the end of last week’s episode turned out to belong to Matthew (Osi Okerafor) – and Fenisha (Olivia D’Lima) was his passenger. They were on their way to the wedding, Matthew having finally given up on his bid to persuade Fenisha to run away with him and not marry Ethan (George Rainsford).

She told him firmly that she loved Ethan, and as they drove she got a voicemail message from Ethan telling her that he had good news following his appointment with his consultant. The future was looking rosy – until a distracted Matthew swerved to avoid hitting a car and crashed through the barrier.

Then a train hit the car, but miraculously it seemed that everyone – including Lev (Uriel Emil), who’d gone to help – was thrown clear. Then Lev was hit by another train coming in the other direction and fell to the ground, apparently lifeless.

It was clear to Rash (Neet Mohan) that Lev was beyond help, but Ethan wouldn’t stop doing CPR. Rash went to find Dylan (William Beck), and saw that Dylan’s patient was Fenisha. By the time Ethan got to her, everyone realised her injuries were unsurvivable. ‘She’s… gone,’ Ethan said, distraught.

As his colleagues started to arrive back at the hospital from the wedding, Fenisha’s parents bringing baby Bodhi with them, Ethan looked lost. He went to sit with Fenisha, and heartbreakingly told her that the doctor had told him his Huntington’s is stable and he has years of life ahead of him. ‘He was giving me my life back,’ he said. ‘Our life.’ He said a life with Fenisha ‘is the only life I’ll ever want. And now it’s gone.’
