Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) has a new job in Emmerdale and she’s taking
to it like a duck to water. She’s joined the family business by joining
her granddad Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) at the garage.
Initially she had to be more or less forced to do the job as Cain was
short-handed with Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) away.
After initial reluctance she soon revealed that she knows something about cars when she worked out what was wrong with a customer’s car. It didn’t hurt that the customer was quite nice-looking, either.
In Wednesday (April 24)’s episode Charity (Emma Atkins) and Mackenzie were just back from their anniversary break and Charity was pleased to see her granddaughter looking forward to going to work at the garage.
The same couldn’t be said for Mack, who was a little bit worried that Sarah might take over his role at the garage, especially when he heard that Cain had asked her to go with him to look at a new car.
Later on they were both at work and Sarah said she’d advised Cain that the car wasn’t worth the money. She asked if she could help him with the job he was doing and he asked her to order a part for him. He asked her to ring round the local dealers and ask if they had an altimeter. This is a navigation device for aircraft and nothing to do with cars. Knowing that he was trying to set her up to look stupid and she asked if she should also ask for ‘a spare propeller.’
Cain came out and Sarah told him that Mack had tried to ‘send her out on a tartan paint run.’
‘He’s known for the massive laughs he gets every time,’ said an unimpressed Cain and told Sarah he’d just been on the phone to someone who was going to set up an apprenticeship for her at the garage – which means she’s going to be a permanent fixture at the garage from now on. She was delighted.
Cain sent her over to the cafe for some takeaway coffee to celebrate, and while she was gone had a little word with Mackenzie.
‘Pulling pranks on teenagers. Classy,’ he said. Mack told him it was all part of working life.
‘Or you being insecure,’ Cain said. ‘Not really a good look, is it?’ He added that Sarah knew about cars and was a fast learner.
‘Maybe you need to watch your back,’ he told Mackenzie – who was starting to look just a little bit worried.
