In a significant shift for EastEnders, Chris Clenshaw has announced his departure as executive producer after three impactful
years, coinciding with the show’s upcoming 40th anniversary in February 2025. Ben Wadey, currently a commissioning executive
at Channel 4, will step into this vital role, bringing a wealth of experience to Albert Square.
A Fond Farewell to Clenshaw
Clenshaw, who rejoined EastEnders in January 2022, has been instrumental in shaping memorable storylines, including the dramatic six Flash Forward episodes, Lola’s brain tumor arc, and Cindy Beale’s sensational return. Reflecting on his time, Clenshaw expressed his pride as a lifelong fan and the honor it has been to lead the iconic show. He emphasized the importance of keeping EastEnders creatively fresh, stating, “It’s time for me to hand over the Queen Vic.”
Introducing Ben Wadey
Taking over as executive producer, Ben Wadey is no stranger to EastEnders. His previous experience as a story editor includes overseeing the show’s 35th anniversary celebrations and introducing the Panesar family. With a solid background in soap operas, including his recent role at Channel 4 overseeing Hollyoaks, Wadey is poised to bring new energy and vision to the series.
Looking Ahead
As EastEnders prepares for its milestone anniversary, fans can anticipate exciting developments under Wadey’s leadership. Clenshaw’s legacy will undoubtedly influence the direction of the show, but Wadey’s fresh perspective is expected to introduce innovative storytelling and engage both long-time viewers and newcomers.
With the promise of a special live episode in February 2025, the future looks bright for EastEnders, and fans eagerly await what lies ahead as the show continues to evolve under new guidance.
