Emmerdale viewers are up in arms over the budding romance between Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and newcomer Jon Sewell
(Oliver Farnworth), calling their on-screen relationship unconvincing and lacking in chemistry. Since Jon’s arrival in the village,
fans have watched the tension-filled interactions between the two men, but many are now taking to social media to voice their disappointment.
Jon, who first connected with Aaron on a dating app, made his in-person debut last month when his car broke down and Aaron came
to help. After realizing that Jon was his mysterious online match, the two shared a passionate moment in Jon’s camper van. However, things took a sharp turn when Aaron discovered Jon was the half-brother of his ex-partner Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley). This revelation caused friction between them, but despite the tension, the pair couldn’t seem to stay away from each other.
However, fans aren’t buying the romance. Taking to Reddit, one viewer said, “Anybody else laughing at the way they’re kissing? I’ve seen more convincing kisses in a school play. It’s like they don’t actually want to be touching each other.”
Another user agreed, “I get they were trying to do the whole ‘we hate each other but we can’t help ourselves,’ but it just came across as awkward. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought it was awful.”
Some viewers joked about the uncomfortable on-screen moments, with one saying, “It looked like they were sucking the souls out of each other.” Others argued that Aaron has more believable chemistry with other characters, like McKenzie Boyd, adding to the criticism.
Despite the backlash, a few fans defended the storyline, suggesting that the awkwardness might be intentional. One viewer commented, “I kind of think that’s what it’s supposed to be—they aren’t comfortable with each other. It will take time. Sometimes chemistry takes a while to develop.”
With fans divided, the future of Aaron and Jon’s relationship remains uncertain. Whether their connection grows stronger or fizzles out, Emmerdale viewers will be watching closely to see how this contentious storyline unfolds.
